Chendamangalam Fort, located in Ernakulam, is one of the important forts in Kerala. It is situated amidst the picturesque beauty of lush green landscape and small hillocks. Three rivers are flowing nearby the Fort, which add to the picturesque view. The 450-years-old Chendamangalam Fort is equally rich in some rare relics, artifacts and historical documents. A temple, a mosque, and a church situated in the close proximity of the fort are a historic example of religious harmony and symbiotic cultural relations of the people of Kerala. Chendamangalam Fort is a unique site in Kerala, which provides a platform for the union of various natural resources and a blend of different cultures. The fort is surrounded by picturesque landscape, marked by the verdant grasslands running parallel to the three sprawling streams of rivers with clear water.

History
Chendamangalam Fort is situated in the historic village of Chendamangalam near Ernakulam, in Kerala. The history of the village is related to Paliam, an ancient Nair family from Chendamangalam. Paliam was the biggest joint Hindu family until 1952. Chendamangalam Fort was the lodging place of the Paliath Acchan, the Prime Minister of Maharaja of Kochi. Paliath Acchan played a great role in the history of Kerala, with the advent of the Portuguese. In 1681, the Kochi Raja bestowed upon him the title of Sarvadhyakshan (Supreme preside over all affairs).

Chendamangalam Fort is an example of the architectural splendor of Kerala. Situated in the scenic beauty, it houses a collection of historic documents and relics. In 16th century, Vypeenkotta Seminary was built by the Portuguese in Chendamangalam. The village remained the residence of the Jews from AD 69 until 1341, when they moved to Fort Kochi. Later, it became the ruling point of the king of Christians of Villarvattom. In 1528, Archbishop Dr. Menezes of Goa paid a visit to the place and administered confirmation to the faithful. Chendamangalam has attracted students of history and foreign visitors alike. It provides rich material for their learning and expedition.
